Unjam
Unjam is a sliding-block puzzle in a wooden tray. Every block moves only along its own length — the upright ones up and down, the flat ones left and right — and none of them can turn. One block is red, and there is a gap in the right-hand wall on its row.
Get it out. Nothing else leaves the tray, so the only way through is to work out which blocks have to shuffle aside, in which order, to open a road that was never there to begin with. What sets this apart from most puzzles of its kind is that every tray has been solved before it shipped. An exhaustive search proved the shortest possible solution for each one, so the par you see is not an estimate or a designer's guess — it is the genuine minimum, and matching it means no one alive could have done it in fewer moves. There are 420 trays across four difficulty bands, from gentle six-move openers to expert tangles that need thirty-eight. Undo is free, reset is free, and a hint will search from wherever you have got to and show you the single best move from there, even if you have wandered far off the shortest line. A new tray arrives every day, easy at the start of the week and building to an expert one on Sunday, with a streak to keep and a par to chase. Drag with a finger or a mouse, or play it entirely from the arrow keys.
